Navigation
The Navigation block shows a menu of links to portal pages, Tableau dashboards, and external web addresses. You build the menu in the block's Navigation Tree, in the sidebar editor.
Add items to the menu
In the Navigation Tree section:
- + add menu item adds a link. Choose Portal Page(s), External URL, or, when Tableau is enabled, Tableau Dashboard(s).
- + add submenu adds a heading that groups other items under it.
Drag items to reorder them or to move them into a submenu.
Who sees each item
- Portal pages appear only for users who can open the page, following the page's access settings.
- External URLs appear for everyone by default. To show one only to some users, limit it by group, as described below.
If an item is hidden from a user, everything under it in the tree is hidden too.
Show an external URL only to selected groups
- Select the external URL item in the Navigation Tree. The Edit External URL Navigation Item panel opens.
- In Access, choose one or more user groups.
- Save the page.
Users in at least one of the selected groups see the item. When Access shows All, meaning no groups are selected, everyone sees it.
Admins follow the same rule: an admin who is not in any of the selected groups does not see the item either.
Note
Limiting an external URL by group only hides the link in the menu. The address is still sent to every user's browser as part of the page, and anyone who has it can still open it. To control who can reach the content itself, restrict access on the site the link points to.
External URL settings
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Label | The text shown in the menu. |
| Link | The web address to open, such as https://example.com. |
| Icon | A Font Awesome icon class shown next to the label. |
| Open URL in new tab | Opens the link in a new browser tab. |
| Access | The user groups that see the item. All means everyone. |
